Description

Complementary plant nutrition for fast-growing plants

Properties:

  • Nitrate: Fast-growing plants consume large amounts of nitrate, and a deficiency can inhibit their growth. Adding Nitro ensures that nitrate levels are sufficient.

Best combined with:

  • Carbo (carbon): To avoid a lack of carbon dioxide (CO₂), which can otherwise cause algae problems.
  • Phospho (phosphate): To keep phosphate levels between 0.5–2.0 mg/l, which is an ideal level. Phosphate above 2.0 mg/l increases the risk of algae problems.
  • Ferro (iron): Important for the plants' chlorophyll production and green color.

Why add plant nutrients?

Argument:

  • Plants need nutrition: Just as fish need food, plants require a balanced supply of macro- and micronutrients to grow optimally.
  • Algae prevention: Plants that grow well consume nitrate, phosphate and other substances that can otherwise cause algae problems.
  • Natural filter: Healthy plants function as a biological filter and contribute to a stable aquarium environment.

The role of light:

  • Fluorescent lamps should be replaced after 12 months as they gradually lose their effectiveness in promoting plant growth, even if they are still lit.
  • LED lighting maintains the same brightness and only needs to be replaced when they stop working.

Economic benefits:

  • By adding plant nutrients, you often avoid having to buy new plants and can reduce costs related to fixing algae problems.
  • Prevention: Without the right nutrients and carbon sources, algae problems can quickly arise, creating an imbalance in the aquarium.

Summary:

Nitro is an important part of a balanced fertilizer strategy for aquarium plants, especially for fast-growing species that require higher amounts of nitrate. By combining Nitro with Carbo, Phosphorus and Ferro, an optimal environment is created where plants can thrive and at the same time counteract algae and other problems in the aquarium.
